THE ORIGINAL PORT ROYAL SOUND DIXIELAND JAZZ BAND

The Original Port Royal Sound Dixieland Jazz Band

OPRSDJB Live Performance - for Beaufort Italian-American Club in 1997

Steve Rich and Bill Hanna on trombone were playing this gig back in 1997
for the Beaufort Italian-American Club. The duo had formed the group on
the basis of using Steve's MIDI arrangement's until professional musicians
moved into the local area and joined the band. Dick Fithian joined the
two and performed at the Beaufort Water Festival low country supper
as a prelude to Vince Vance's evening show that year. With the addition
of Rick Radcliff on Piano, Jim Roberson on drums and Jon Miller on
trombone, the MIDI arrangements were relegated to use for special occasions only.

This is a picture of Dizzy Gillespie that Diz signed and gave
to Steve after a performance at SC State in Orangeburg in the
mid-eighty's. Steve sat in as lead alto sax while Wade Johnson
assisted on trumpet with the college's Jazz band, then
under the direction of Mr. Alvin E. Fulton.
Thanks Diz - and thank you to all the jazz musicians who have
led the way! From where you have walked, we will forge onward -
communicating the joy of America's only original Art form!
